Printing & Materials
What's the difference between CMYK and PMS printing?
CMYK blends four process inks and is ideal for full-colour artwork and photography. PMS (Pantone) uses pre-mixed spot colours for precise, consistent brand colours across every run.
CMYK and PMS are two ways of putting colour on your box, and many projects use them together. Understanding the difference helps you get both rich imagery and rock-solid brand colours.
How CMYK works
CMYK builds colour by combining cyan, magenta, yellow and black in tiny dots. It can reproduce an enormous range of colours, which makes it perfect for photographs, gradients and detailed, multi-colour artwork.
How PMS works
PMS, or Pantone, uses inks pre-mixed to an exact recipe. Because the colour is mixed before it hits the press rather than simulated with dots, it reproduces the same precise shade every time — essential for consistent brand colours.
